Thanks Barbara Logan ~ I would love to share this on the Network!
Hi Maua,
Welcome to the industry! Here're some tips to get you started.
1) Sign up for notifications anytime someone posts a casting call here: http://www.hawaiiactors.com/group/currentlycasting/
Working on indie, non-paid films will give you valuable learning and experience, credits for your resumé, and footage for a demo reel of your work.
2) Definitely get into a class - learn your craft and keep developing it. There are good ones all around the island: http://www.hawaiiactors.com/page/acting-coaches You'll also hear the latest industry happenings through teachers and fellow working students.
I can presonally recommend Scott Rogers for serious actors as well as Wayne Ward for great classes. I recently started a class on the north shore, too.
3) Submit your resumé and head shot to the casting director for Hawaii Five-0, Rachel Sutton: http://rachelsuttoncasting.com/ They will send out emails when they have extras casting calls.
For principal roles, Rachel usually gets all talent through the agents on the island who submit their clients that would fit the parts.
4) When you are ready, skills-wise and with a monologue you can perform for them, you should submit yourself to an agent for them to represent you and they will submit you for casting calls, both commercials and theatrical (TV or movies).
