Just to clarify, the treatment is more or less finished. I'm still fiddling with the screenplay. To be honest it works better as a TV pilot. One thing Jen said, that a TV show should have enough characters and material to carry on for multiple never ending episodes. A film doesn't have to do that. PP
There's Celtx that you install, or a less complicated one called Scriptbuddy that's online, they're free or practically free.
I'm currently working on the treatment. A TV pilot script is written different than a feature film, due to commercial breaks, so I'm still wondering - which one.
The cabbie/comic will no doubt have to be someone with comedian experience and style, because, he will have to know how to tell jokes. Right? I have a friend on the mainland who has written hundreds of jokes, I mean David Letterman grade. So the jokes will be included, not improvised, just need the delivery. When it's ready I'll send it. PP
You will definitely need software to make it easier, if you haven't done that already. I found writing adaptations of existing novels or true life stories, better than trying to develop everything from the ground up. Many screenwriters find adaptations difficult. A pro is helpful, but better after you get it all down first. Who cares what it looks like, it's the editing where it all happens. Check out Jen Grisanti at www.jengrisanticonsultancy.com. She's the pro's pro.
HI Matt,
I'm working on a screenplay for a film or perhaps a pilot, about three roommates living in the jungle of Waikiki; one is a cab driver by day and a stand up comic by night; another is a surf instructor by day bouncer at night, at the same club. (You know how it is when you live here, you need two jobs!) I'm still working on the other character. The stories usually revolve around the weirdos they encounter more than between each other. I have a WGA registered treatment for you to review, if it may be of interest. Aloha, Paulette.
What you really have to consider is how much are you willing to pour into your acting career and what are you willing to do to make yourself more marketable? If you're serious about both and willing to do what it takes, then you should seriously consider getting an agent. There are several agencies in town. Do your research - call the agencies to see what they are looking for and what kind of commitment they require. Talk to people you trust who have agents.
As you know, we are in one of the most brutal industries today. Nobody is going to give us anything, including our agent. But if we put in the work and we develop a strong relationship with our agent, good things will come.
Ah, OK, now it makes some sense. I got a message from HAN about your posting and went to see it but it wasn't there.
I'm not so sure a general comment-about-anything forum would be a good idea. But I do wish they'd establish and impose some guidelines about posting comments appropriate to the respective forum. When HAN first started up thuis was a problem and I posted a note about it. Interstingly, I got a reponse from Teddy saying something alongthelines of "thanks for taking one for the group" and agreeing that comments should stay on-topic. But Teddy and his brother are nowthe worst offenders. They keep posting these feel-good comments that really have nothnig to do with acting, let alone the subject of the forum. I'm afraid to push the issue too stringy for fear of getting kicked off of HAN altogether. And since HAN is now THE place for getting acting jobs... :)
